What is Rookie - Tyke Hybrid Baseball?
Rookieball is a form of baseball that normally uses a pitching machine as the pitcher.
Tyke Baseball allows for opposing team's pitcher to face the batter.
Toronto Beach Baseball, we will allow for the hitter to choose from slow pitch from a coach, OR face the opposing team's pitcher.
What are the ages?
Teams will be composed of both boys and girls ages 7 to 12. Players of various ages will play together on one team.
How are the teams balanced?
All players are asked to attend an Evaluation Day at Kew Gardens Baseball Diamond (Queen St. E and Lee Ave) on Saturday May 2 at 5pm-8:30pm.
When does the season start and end?
Evaluation Day is Saturday May 2. Uniforms will be provided to parents on this day. First practice and game(s) are on May 9. We aim to end the season by end of July however due to possibility of inclement weather, we may need to extend into August.
How often do the teams practice and play? All teams practice once per week followed by a game on Saturdays.
Please arrive a minimum of 15 minutes before practice to warmup.
Skills Practice 1: 5pm - 5:30pm. Game 1 starts at 5:30pm (max. 4-Inning game)
Skills Practice 2: 6:45pm - 7:15pm. Game 2 starts at 7:15pm (max. 4-inning game)
Are there any weekend tournaments?
No.
What equipment is required?
Players must provide their own baseball glove, helmet, protective cup & footwear. Most players wear rubber-soled cleats but running shoes are permitted. Uniforms and all other equipment are provided.
What does the registration fee cover?
Registration fee covers, up to 10 practices and games, team uniform jersey top and hat.
Can my son or daughter be on the same team as their friend(s)?
Usually yes. Both players should mark their one specific request on their registration forms.
Does everyone receive the same amount of playing time?
Yes. Although this will vary from one game to the next, over the course of the season all players that show up consistently should play equally.
Do I have to live in a certain geographic area to play?
All players must be residents of Toronto Beach/Upper Beach/Leslieville area. Special exemptions upon request but not guaranteed.
When and where are the games played?
Games are played on Saturdays at Kew Gardens Baseball Diamond (Queen St. E and Lee Ave) or alternate park Norway Junior Public School baseball diamond (Kingston Rd. and Woodbine).
How can I help?
Each team has a head coach and 1 or 2 assistant coaches.
